DESCRATES IN EGMOND

SYNOPSIS

René Descartes is widely known as the father of modern philosophy, but few people know that he spent many years in the Dutch village of Egmond, where he not only had a relationship with a Dutch woman but also had a child who tragically died at a very young age. Did this loss influence his thinking? And what particular influence did this foreign country, with its remarkable freedom and advanced scientific climate for that time, have on his philosophy? Accompanied by Dutch and French philosophers and historians, and an English novelist, we follow the path that the French philosopher took during his six years in Egmond, North Holland.
